Fans claim Southampton have unveiled the best away kit of the 2022/23 season and after having a look, it’s hard to disagree with that.

The Hummel away jersey has been launched with the slogan “bold is brave”, and it certainly has a bold design with the colours teal, aqua and gold used with a swirling wave pattern sublimated into the fabric.

It takes inspiration from the docks and the Premier League club’s proximity to the Solent, a strait between the Isle of Wight and Great Britain.

The teal coloured raglan sleeves have two gold Hummel chevrons on each shoulder, with the round neck collar and cuffs in navy with gold trim. The back is plain teal.

Aqua shorts and teal socks complete the new Hummel Southampton 2022-23 away strip.

Introducing #SaintsFC’s 2022/23 @hummel1923 away kit:

You’ve seen how the Southampton Football Club home shirt is bringing a brave new direction to St Mary’s. Now, let’s take a closer look at a design inspired by the Solent and destined to turn heads on the road. This is your 2022/23 away kit.

Let’s make some waves

This season’s away shirt is the club’s boldest yet. Created in partnership with hummel, our bold new teal, aqua and gold away shirt takes inspiration from the docks and our proximity to the Solent.

A design as eye-catching and unpredictable as the swirling south coast seas that inspired it. The kit is matched with teal and aqua shorts and socks. Both are complete with two of hummel’s iconic chevrons in gold, taking inspiration from hummel’s retro kits.

Sarah Batters, Director of Marketing & Partnerships for Southampton Football Club, said: “This season’s away shirt is our boldest yet and it’s a proud reminder of where we come from, taking inspiration from the Solent. Working with hummel on this shirt has really allowed us to push the boundaries of creativity and bravery. We know our fans may be divided on their opinions of the shirt, given the colour choice and standout pattern, but we look forward to seeing it worn by our fans.”

Allan Vad Nielsen, CEO for hummel, said: “We are proud of our partnership with Southampton. This season’s away shirt has given us the chance to work together to really push the boundaries and create the boldest yet. It’s a bold direction to take, but we hope this has resulted in a shirt that will spark conversations amongst fans and inspire them to be brave in wearing it.”

Created in partnership with hummel – and available to pre-order from today – the official Southampton Football Club 2022/23 home kit has arrived.

A true statement piece, the new home shirt draws inspiration from those worn by the flamboyant and free-flowing Saints side of the early ’80s. Reversing the colours of the shirt first worn by trailblazers like Kevin Keegan, Alan Ball and Charlie George, the striking central red stripe and central badge mark a brave new direction for the club.

Bravery forms a core part of who we are, wanting to always push the boundaries, challenge the convention and continuously innovate.

With this season’s bold kit, we are celebrating bravery both on and off the pitch. We’ve taken inspiration from the single bold red stripe, wanting to inspire our fans to be brave, whatever their challenge is – just as our players seek to be brave on the pitch.

Further subtle detail is reflected in the contemporary geometric pattern taken from the iconic stanchions of St Mary’s, and the central badge stands this kit apart from previous seasons. The sleeves are complemented with two chevrons, taken from hummel’s iconic design trademark, and have been inspired by their retro kits. The inside neckline also features the hummel logo.

We are fully committed to creating a positive impact on the environment, as part of our dedicated sustainability strategy, The Halo Effect. Like last season, this season’s kit has been produced using Eco8 material made from fabric created using recycled plastic bottles.

Southampton Football Club’s Director of Marketing & Partnerships, Sarah Batters, said: “Being brave is in our DNA. We’ve always looked for new ways to push boundaries and this season’s kit is no different. As part of this launch, we asked players, staff, and fans what bravery means to them and in time we will be releasing some of these stories. Working with hummel enables us to creatively push our kit designs and this shirt is no different; celebrating our heritage with a flip on the classic 1980 shirt but modernised with nods to St Mary’s Stadium and a bold central badge.”

Southampton Football Club partnered with hummel because of our shared values and their mission to want to change the world through sport.

This season’s kit launch has been carefully designed to start conversations, giving us the opportunity to tell the unique stories of the fans, players and people that make the club so special to be part of. We asked our fans to tell us what bravery meant to them and what they wished they could do if they were brave. The conversations will shine a light on bravery and a willingness to push boundaries, challenge ourselves or stand out. And it’s something you’ll be able to see for yourself in our upcoming three-part Bold is Brave docuseries.

Allan Vad Nielsen, CEO for hummel, said: “We are very proud of our association with Southampton, and this kit launch is another exciting step on our united journey. The club’s values of hard work and innovation are consistent with ours – and it’s a pleasure to be working with a club that’s always looking for new ways to push boundaries and challenge conventions. This has resulted in, what we believe, is a really strong design for next season, and we hope the new kit will strike a chord with all Saints supporters around the world to create new and lasting memories both on and off the pitch.”
