Due to the suspension, Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin will miss one game. Whether he missed more games due to injury remains to be seen.

"He is still in the evaluation period, so I really don't have any updates," coach Jeff Brashir said after skating on Saturday morning. "With the suspension (Friday), there is no need to rush to make a decision."

On Thursday, Larkin suffered an unspecified injury after he was hit by a glass from behind by Matthew Joseph of Tampa Bay, and he planned to see a specialist. The check prompted Larkin to hit Joseph in the face with a gloved fist, resulting in him being suspended for one game when the Vancouver Canucks visit Little Caesars Arena (7pm, Bally Sports Detroit) tonight.

Joseph was not punished or disciplined by the NHL for actions that Blasshill believed were more dangerous than the suspension of Larkin.

"From a philosophical point of view, I think the most dangerous game in that game so far is high hits from the back, any type of push or cross-check in the number of rebounds that the players head down," said Brashir . "If I were a player, those are the games I most want to be protected. When I talked to my son last night, when he asked me why a gloved punch is more dangerous than another punch, etc., I couldn’t Don't explain to him that this is not for me personally.

"Ultimately, Dylan will serve the sentence, we will take the medicine and move on. I think Dylan knew you wanted to control your emotions, but when I saw it yesterday, I fully understood why he didn't do it. No one is perfect. Yes. Considering what he has experienced and what has happened in the past 8 to 10 months, I fully understand."

Blashill refers to the cross-examination of Larkin's neck by Jamie Benn on April 20. Larkin missed the last eight games of the season and spent eight weeks on the hard collar. Benn was not punished or disciplined by the league.

After Larkin was expelled from the field at 11:40 in the second quarter on Thursday, Robbie Fabry moved to the center position along with Taylor Bertucci and Lucas Raymond. Brie will stay there tonight.

"Fabs played quite a lot of centers, starting at center last year," Brashir said. "I think Fabs has performed very well in hockey this year (including training camp and preseason), so I think Fabs has the ability to succeed in that position."

Carter Rowney will make his debut on the Red Wings.

"Of course he is someone who knows how to play in this league, and I want to be in the lineup at some point anyway," Brashir said.

Here is what the lines of Red Wings looked like at the beginning of the game:

Thomas Grace is expected to start scoring tonight.

On Friday, the Canucks (1-0-1) defeated their opponents 5-4 in Philadelphia.
