BOSTON (WHDH)-Earlier this week, in Dorchester, an hour-long standoff in which a gunman was killed resulted in a third Boston policeman injured in the shooting and was discharged from hospital on Thursday.

The unnamed police officer walked out of the Boston Medical Center wearing knee pads to the applause of colleagues. When the officers gathered in front to greet their colleagues, there was a sense of relief in the air.

Larry Calderone, president of the Boston Patrol Association, talked to the police officer after his release. He said: "It's so happy to go out. Thank you for everything is well. It's great to be able to go out with your family." This is a beautiful day for the department and the City of Boston."

The police officer returned home under the escort of the police.

According to Boston police, he was the third and last officer to be fired after a confrontation with a blocked suspect on Ferndale Street for nearly six hours on Tuesday afternoon. The suspect shot at the officer.

According to the police, the police fought back and killed the suspect in the incident.
