Alumni of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Delhi created the world's first car cane that can stand on its own. The product will be launched at the end of August and is expected to solve the problem of the disabled and the elderly on locomotives. Unlike traditional models, crutches can be used in any terrain-even as a support for hiking, according to the IITians who created them.

Arvind SA, co-founder of Flexmotiv, said: "This is the world's first self-supporting underarm crutches. In the initial stage of using crutches, support is always needed, but Flexmotiv is designed to be used without any support."

“Traditional crutches have rubber toes at the end, which makes it difficult for users to move it in muddy fields or snowy terrain, because the crutches may get stuck in the mud or slip on the snow. But Flexmotiv is designed to be in the shape of a leg. The end part has the shape of a toe and a heel," Arvind said.

"The device is designed in a way that improves surface adaptability, thereby reducing the vibration force during walking from 5% to 10%, and improving user performance by 10% to 20%," he added. It may be available on all e-commerce platforms at a price of Rs 2,999 before August 15, 2019.

Arvind said it took two years for the cane to be developed, adding that it was a friend's accident that prompted them to develop "Flexmotiv".

"One of our friend Taren sprained his ankle while playing a basketball game on the campus (Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi). His struggle and pain prompted us to make equipment for the disabled," said the 29-year-old Indian Institute of Technology Delhi alumnus .

According to Arvind, the product can be used for patients with spinal cord injuries, fractures, knee and hip replacements in addition to people with disabilities.

Flexmotiv is now available on the company website flexmotiv.com. "Before launching it on the market, we want to carefully review people's needs so that we can improve our product. The product will be available on e-commerce sites including Amazon and Flipkart at the end of August," co-founder Arvind SA said.

"We are trying to provide it on Amazon before August 15th," Arvind SA said.

The startup Flexmotiv is led by students from IIT-Delhi Arvind SA, Adepu Srinivas and Girish Yadav. The company is located in Delhi and has 10 employees.
