NBC’s The Voice runner-up Wendy Moten has returned to Nashville following the star-studded finale and on Friday (Dec. 17), the Team Blake alum underwent an extensive surgery to repair the injuries she sustained when she fell on stage during the show. 

Moten updated fans as she was on her way to Nashville’s Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she was scheduled to have surgery that day. 

“Today’s the day,” she shared as she was enroute to the hospital.

Moten admitted she was ready to put her injuries behind her so she could get “back to business” making music. 

“I got one of the top surgeons at Vanderbilt getting ready to work on my arm,” she revealed. 

Moten went on to thank everyone for their support and promised that she plans to “keep going” after recuperating from surgery. 

Prior to the finale, the singer revealed that she first planned to have the surgery in California, however, she had a change of plans. 

“Initially I was going to have the surgery Wednesday here in Burbank, but I switched it to Nashville so that should anything go wrong, I’ll be at home, and my family is closer,” she told People. “I’ve been in talks with the doctor at Vanderbilt, and they have everything. They got two dates set up for me: they got an ‘if I win’ date for surgery, and then ‘if I don’t win,’ they got a date for that surgery. I’ll be having surgery coming up in a few days or next week.”

“My elbow is jacked up,” she added. “It’s shattered. It’s no good. I have to have surgery to put metal plates and bolts and things. So I’m amazed that I was able to still keep going with that knowledge.”

Moten sustained the injuries to her elbow when she fell over an on-stage speaker during the Nov. 23 live show. She ended up having to wear two casts on her arms as she sustained a broken right elbow and fractured left hand. 

According to Moten, the recovery “may take two or three months.” 

After joining Team Blake, Moten made history as the oldest contestant to make it this far in the competition at 57 years old. 

She promised fans not to let the surgery put her on the sidelines. 

“Once I get this surgery under wraps and I get through my recovery…then I am going to put some things together and get some shows going. Record some more music,” she revealed.
