Fans of Springbok rugby player Jannie du Plessis are sad and confused after hearing that his one-year-old son died after a drowning accident at the rugby player’s birthday party. These incidents have once again made water safety the focus of attention.

Krugersdorp News reported that this incident was confirmed by Toks van der Linde, who expressed his condolences on Twitter.

"Please pray for Jannie du Plessis and his family. His one-year-old son drowned last night. My heart is broken and broken," he wrote on Twitter.

Considering the impact of Du Plessis’ tragedy on fans and social media users, citizens have compiled some water safety tips for those who wish to spend downtime at the water’s edge during this holiday season.

For parents of newborns, Healthy Children recommends that you always stay within reach and do not leave your baby alone or under the supervision of other children.

The site also recommends installing latches to ensure that children cannot enter toilets or pool areas by themselves. This is a supplement to empty anything that may contain a lot of water after use.

The Redcross website also provides some online video resources for parents who want to learn how to save water for themselves and their children.

Kid's Health also has some suggestions on what to do in a water safety emergency. These tips include checking the swimming pool or other waters first when the child is missing.

The organization explained: "Survival depends on quick rescue and restarting breathing as soon as possible."

"If you find a child in the water, call for help while rescuing the child. If there are other people nearby, please ask them to call [emergency services]," or the quick response team suggested the site.

They further recommend checking to make sure your child’s airway is open, and starting CPR if you are trained, in case your child is not breathing.

If you can pass, it is best to follow the instructions given to you by the emergency operator.

"If you think your child has a neck injury, such as diving, please let the child lie on his back."

In addition, you can support the neck and shoulders with your hands and forearms to prevent neck movement until emergency rescue arrives, as this helps prevent further injury to the spine.

If the child is awake, keep them quiet and speak in a calm tone, so that they also remain calm.

Other precautions for your children include: do not run by the water, wear necessary water safety equipment (life jackets, floating devices, etc.), do not swim in flowing water, make sure they have a "partner" in addition to adult supervision while swimming .

It is also recommended for people of all ages to take swimming lessons.

In terms of water safety, adults should also remember not to swim after drinking, do not swim alone, or if they are not strong or unqualified swimmers can let others do so, and stay away from the water during thunderstorms and other severe weather.
