San Diego (KGTV)-On Friday afternoon, an exciting meeting kicked off. The family of the victim of the Lemon Grove shooting met a Marine who was off duty and he came to help him.

At the entrance of the hospital, a grateful mother and an emotional aunt met the Marines they called heroes.

"You saved my son's life. I'm glad you were there. Thank you for your service," Alicia Mansi said.

"Thank you very much," Deborah Schilling said.

The meeting took place two days after gunfire rang near the Lemon Grove grocery store parking lot, apparently driving by.

Giovanni Brunacini, an active-duty Marine Corps who was on vacation, heard gunshots and grabbed his medical kit. The shooting instructor has received combat medic training.

On the ground is the tramp Robert Mansi, shot at least 3 times, sideways 2 times, and wrist 1 time.

That night, ABC 10 News learned that Brunacini was able to put pressure on his side and slow the bleeding until the paramedic arrived. He also put a splint on Mansi's wrist and told him to continue talking so that he would not be frightened.

This is Brunacini's first treatment for a gunshot wound.

"I have to thank my soldier, he taught everything I know. Through training, I have gained so much exposure," Brunacini said.

According to his mother Alicia Mansi, Mansi is 37 years old and is currently in a stable condition.

When the family saw the original ABC 10News story, they stretched out their hands, hoping to get in touch with Brunacini. We called him. He wants to meet.

And meet them to do it. A Marine and the relatives of a man he helped save.

"It makes me feel good inside. Knowing that I helped this person and this family," Brunacini said.

"I feel honored. I am grateful. I am speechless. I just want you to know that I am grateful," Alicia said of Brunacini.

"He is a hero, definitely a hero in my life, forever," Alicia said.

Alicia and Brunacini did exchange numbers and plan to keep in touch.

The shooting is still under investigation.
